The broad-leaf deciduous forest consisting i.a. of beech and oak is the remains of an oak and hazel forest previously existing around the Stureholm estate. Bringing the soil into cultivation in the middle of the 19th century meant that this forest was considerably reduced. It is important to take care of and safeguard our broad-leaf deciduous forests (by law), but it is also important to preserve and protect the plants growing on the ground, like e.g. orchids and lilies of the valley. Orchids are totally protected by law in the entire country, but lilies of the valley still are not placed under protection in the district of Skåne. Take a look at these beauties in the spring – but do not pick them! |

Deer, roe, hare, pheasants, wild geese and many migratory birds
on their way to and from their winter holiday can be spotted in this
area. Ornithologists are frequent visitors on our grounds. Several
working dog clubs have also organized training as well as
competitions here for several years. According to the regional
ornithologist list (Kullabygden), Stureholm is station No. 91 and
many rare birds of prey have been observed. The game management is handled by creating wild life
restorations and protective plantations for the small game and by giving
extra feed to the big animals in the winter. There are possibilities to hunt for

slowly through the woods we can all get pleasure from our animal
life – and you may even have time to actually see an animal, too. In

RECREATION & NATURE |

The
forest, the farmland and the wide open spaces allow
for great possibilities for recreation and outdoor life. You are welcome
to walk around in the forest around Stureholm as long as you respect the
rules set up and required in the directions called Allemansrätten
for woods and fields to be left open to all. A
walk in the forest to look for cone animals or tracks of animals or to
make an exciting climb up a hunting tower will make any little human
feeling tired. |
